The first 90 days, we set the pace.

Client Overview
Ideem, a US-based technology company founded by a team of seasoned entrepreneurs, recognized a critical flaw in the digital landscape: the escalating crisis of fraud. In 2024, consumers in Asia lost a staggering $700 billion to digital scams, a figure that underscores the crisis in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies.

Sarah Huang, Principal Consultant and Managing Partner at H&F Advisers, were engaged to lead Ideem's ambitious market entry into Southeast Asia. Their mandate was to provide the strategic execution, provide boosts on ground with local market expertise, and fractional leadership required to turn Ideem's vision of secure, bank-grade authentication into a regional reality.

Addressable market
The addressable market for secure authentication and fraud prevention solutions in Southeast Asia represents a rapidly expanding segment within a digital economy projected to exceed $330 billion by 2025. As digital transformation accelerates across the region, financial institutions and digital platforms are facing a surge in application fraud, transaction fraud, and identity theft.

By 2025, the demand for sophisticated security solutions is expected to grow exponentially as traditional, rule-based defences fail against AI-powered threats. Within this landscape, the authentication segment alone represents a multi-billion dollar opportunity as businesses seek to replace vulnerable one-time passcodes (OTPs) with phishing-resistant, hardware-based alternatives.

Driven by rapid mobile adoption and increasing regulatory pressure for robust data protection, Southeast Asian organisations are prioritising investments in advanced cryptographic technologies and zero-trust architectures. This makes the region one of the most actionable and scalable markets for Ideem's Passkeys+ and Zero-Trust Secure Module (ZSM) technology.

The Challenge

The Southeast Asian fraud landscape was ripe for disruption. Traditional security measures were being bypassed by adaptive, AI-powered attacks, including deepfakes and synthetic identities. Ideem faced the challenge of entering a diverse market with complex regulatory environments and entrenched criminal syndicates. This required more than just a groundbreaking product; it demanded a complete go-to-market overhaul, deep local intelligence, and the strategic agility to navigate high-stakes environments while building trust with C-level stakeholders.

The Solution

Sarah Huang spearheaded the execution-focused partnership, guiding Ideem through every stage of its Southeast Asian journey. She and her team established a multi-pronged go-to-market strategy that delivered results with lightning speed. Under her leadership, the team secured Proof of Concepts (POCs) in multiple countries in as little as four months. By leveraging a "Local SEA Playbook" and deep investor networks like Sovereign's Capital and Quona Capital, H&F Advisers transformed Ideem from a US-based startup into a recognized regional contender. The solution centered on Passkeys+ and the proprietary ZSM, providing a hardware-based root of trust that binds credentials to devices, effectively eliminating the risk of credential theft.

The Impact

The partnership between Ideem and H&F Advisers has established a powerful blueprint for technology companies entering complex markets. Within just four months, Ideem successfully navigated the treacherous waters of the region's fraud landscape, securing critical pilot programs with major financial institutions. Ideem is now positioned as a leading provider of phishing-resistant authentication in Southeast Asia, offering bank-grade security that protects both businesses and consumers. This successful transformation has not only established a strong foundation for growth but has also solidified Ideem's position as a true disruptor in the global cybersecurity landscape.
